Lawyers who return something Looks at a side of lawyers that you don't hear too much – the side that returns … pays it forward … and shares love. We have found a number of lawyers who do not let up for hours, helped others-in one way because they believe that it is the right one. Her stories are inspiring and hey, who knew that lawyers were so … good? If you have to tell a story about a lawyer who does the right thing, let us know – we would like to let others know. Today we speak to lawyer Charles Gordon …

Right

If you have ever existed, investigative lawyer Charles Gordon can find you. Not only that, he also teaches other lawyers as you can find!

He is an expert in the art of 'Skip Tracing' – that is how it sounds to track down the business, witnesses, debtors or former spouses, “skip” the obligations – or you could miss in heirs for goods, or you only have to be found for other legal reasons.

Lawyer Charles Eric Gordon

Gordon is a trained lawyer of Brooklyn Law School, but as he tells you: “I haven't led you as a lawyer for a long time.

The computer is a powerful sword in search of people who are missing the legal puzzles. In his free workshops for the volunteer -lawyer project of the Brooklyn Bar Association, he teaches people how to use Google or Ancestry.com and seek licensed databases to locate people.

“It's something that I really like to do,” says Gordon. “I get an insight – especially if the lawyers ask questions from their own practices and I talk about how I would deal with the problem.”

“I tell you that the computer is important,” he adds, “but the internet is not everything.”

Gordon is also a bit of a charmer and in his shop, that's a definitive plus. “Lawyers who want to learn how to find missing witnesses or heirs for goods have to use” the Schmoze “. It is a Yiddish expression,” says Gordon. “Basically, I mean that I talk out and with people, don't just sit on the computer.”

“If there is chemical cleaning or a bodega in its old neighborhood, in which someone remembers what happened to them,” says Gordon. “Or maybe someone remembers someone there who knows where to go.”

Gordon loves his job. And sometimes when a lawyer comes to him to find someone who is critical for a case. If it is worthy, Gordon gets into the case per bono and does the work.

In the early 1970s, when Gordon graduated from the university with an English degree (yes, there was another degree), his career options were limited. “I started working on a debt collector. I was very good at finding debtors and judging cars. And I loved the chase,” says Gordon.

“You could say that I carved a little niche,” says Gordon in his sunny office in the 7th Avenue in New York. He has a collection of telephone books that return to the early 20th century-a one of the artistic tools in his folk finding kit. “Sometimes people say something like, my uncle lived on a street with a pet name, but I can't remember.”

“I am through the phone book and find the Zebra Lane or the Dromedarian Strasse,” says Gordon. “I know where to start.”

As Gordon said, it is an art.
