South Korea reported that the first case of artificial intelligence was used to analyze surveillance camera film material for a missing person within a few hours, the local media said on Sunday.
According to Anyang Dongan Police Station in the province of Gyeonggi, the police received a report at around 1:24 on June 25 that a man had disappeared after he had sent his girlfriend a text message and switched off his phone.
The officials were sent at the last Pinged location of the man's cell phone and found him at home with his family. Shortly afterwards, however, the family reported that he had been missing again.
The police then started to follow it with the Advanced Integrated Intelligence for Identification System, a pilot program with which AI can analyze the school material for public surveillance if they received the photo of a person and a description of their clothes.
The officials entered the photo of the man together with the details of his outfit on this day-one gray t-shirt and black pants and limited the search area in his neighborhood. The system identified it in a nearby park and enabled the police to find it within three hours after the report.
It was the first case in South Korea in which a AI-based system successfully found a missing person.
The police said that if people had searched manually, it could have taken more than 10 hours. The man was found safely in much less time.
