Irrational maintenance payments: SIFF Men's Rights Group launches online campaign against irrational maintenance payments | Aurangabad News

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Men's rights group Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) has launched an online campaign against “irrational” maintenance payments after divorce. The group, which is spearheading the campaign with the hashtag '1CroreAlimony', has called for the amount of alimony to be adjusted in proportion to the length of the marriage. SIFF co-founder Anil Murty said the situation is serious for men who enter into marriage after a short period of time due to marital disputes. “Some men are married for just six months and have to pay Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore in maintenance. If they cannot afford it, they must sell their property or go to civil prison. How can men who earn Rs 5 lakh per year pay such a high maintenance for a short-lived marriage? the main culprits. “According to NCRB data, about 83,713 married men committed suicide in 2022, 30% of them due to family reasons,” the group said. “There is an urgent need to change maintenance laws. “The existing laws are grossly misused against men and have become instruments of their exploitation,” he said.
