TWO brothers, who fought each other at a shrine after the older brother accused his sibling of having an affair with his wife, allegedly turned on a good Samaritan who tried to end the fight and killed him.
One of the brothers allegedly held the Good Samaritan on his head with his feet up and head down, while the other stabbed him all over the body with a knife several times.
Pardon Guzhumura, 22, was reportedly killed by Emmanuel Matura, 21, and Felix, 25, while his mother, known as Madzimai Nancy – a self-proclaimed prophetess – and some cult members watched helplessly.
The incident occurred at around 11pm on Monday at a Madzimai Nancy shrine in Greenvale, Gweru.
Madzimai Nancy Shrine is popular with artisan miners and people who want to be cleansed of evil spirits.
Sources said Felix and Emmanuel worked together as artisan miners and would jointly consult Madzimai Nancy so she could help them get gold panning.
“On Monday morning Felix and Emmanuel Madzimai visited Nancy’s shrine in Greenvale to pray that they would receive gold while waving. Madzimai Nancy told them to return at night as she only counseled spiritually for people at night, ”the source said.
According to the source, the brothers spent the day drinking beer before heading to the Madzimai Nancy shrine around 10 p.m.
When they arrived at the shrine, Felix’s pregnant wife was reportedly prayed by Madzimai Nancy.
The source said Felix allegedly ordered Madzimai Nancy to consult and confirm whether the pregnancy was actually his or Emmanuel’s.
“Felix and Emmanuel started quarreling with Felix who accused his brother of being in love with his wife,” the source said.
At this stage, the source says, Madzimai Nancy’s son intervened.
“The brothers turned on him when Emmanuel held him on the head of Undertaker (WWE Wrestling Superstar) while Felix stabbed him to death before they ran away from the shrine,” the source said.
The Midlands Province Police Spokesman, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the two brothers’ alleged murder of Guzhumura at his mother’s shrine.
“I can confirm that two brothers Felix and Emmanuel Matura, who went for spiritual cleansing in a shrine in Greenvale, Gweru, allegedly killed Pardon Guzhumura after a misunderstanding. Guzhumura was attacked first before he was stabbed all over his body several times, ”he said.
Insp Mahoko said the matter was reported to police, who attended the scene before Guzhumura was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The two suspects were arrested and are helping the police to investigate.
“As the police, we appeal to the public not to use force to solve their problems. The police are there to solve problems, and so are community leaders because violence leads to loss of property and life, ”he said.
