Kanye West jeopardizes custody of his baby with explosive social media posts – lawyer

Kanye West is jeopardizing his child custody with his fleeting social media posts amid his ongoing divorce proceedings with his estranged wife Kim Kardashian.

The reality TV star, 41, filed for divorce from West, 44, in February 2021 after almost seven years of marriage.

“Courts generally don’t like it when parents sue their divorce in the press,” divorce attorney Jacqueline Newman told Newsweek.

In a hearing on Wednesday, Kardashian was declared legally single by an LA court and will change her name from Kardashian-West back to just Kardashian, her rep confirmed to Newsweek.

For the past few weeks, the Donda rapper has taken to Instagram to share his views and opinions on how Kardashian is raising her children, his desire to repair her marriage, and his anger at her new boyfriend, Pete Davidson.

Kardashian said last week that ending the marriage would allow them to “peacefully” raise their four children together — North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2.

“Kanye has posted a lot of misinformation on social media about our private affairs and co-parenting, which has caused emotional distress,” Kardashian said in documents seen by Entertainment Tonight, referring to her estranged husband’s Instagram posts about you.

Newman, who has also written three books on divorce, said West doesn’t respect Kardashian’s desire to keep the divorce private.

“Kim has expressed her desire to keep the divorce private and it seems her future ex-husband is not respecting that wish,” she explained.

“While I understand that celebrity children are often in the public eye, these are still children and they don’t want to read about their parents’ divorce in the tabloids.”

She continued, “I often tell my clients that before you post anything on social media about your divorce, you think, ‘Would you like to take this news straight to your kids? Or the judge? Or to your family?’ If the answer is yes, then keep posting – but if the answer is no, then don’t.”

Newman said the “general rule” is that couples stay off social media when divorcing and “don’t let your desire to hurt your ex overcome your desire to protect your children.”

It was reported this week that West was reshuffling his legal team ahead of Wednesday’s hearing to decide whether Kardashian would be declared legally single.

Divorce attorney Chris Melcher confirmed to People Tuesday that he is no longer representing West and is taking over Samantha Spector.

West recently apologized for his social media posts aimed at Kardashian and has publicly expressed his desire to rekindle their relationship multiple times — even while he was briefly dating actress Julia Fox.

“I think this will be settled quickly and ultimately in a private arena,” Newman concluded. “Both have excellent lawyers who clearly recognize that a quick and amicable resolution of this case is necessary to protect both parties and most importantly the children of the parties.”

Newsweek has reached out to representatives from West and Kardashian for comment.
