KEARNEY – At approximately 8:30 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2024, Kearney Police investigated a telephone message left at Meadowlark Elementary School in connection with a custody dispute.
As a precautionary measure, Kearney Public Schools responded by following Standard Response Protocol and placing Meadowlark Elementary and Sunrise Middle School on safe status while KPD continued to investigate the matter.
Secure status means the school will keep its students and staff in the building and will not allow visitors into the school. KPD has been in contact with the individual involved in this incident and it was determined there is no threat associated with the phone message left at Meadowlark Elementary.
This matter has been closed and the schools have been released from their secure status.
