KEARNEY – At approximately 8:30 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2024, Kearney Police investigated a telephone message left at Meadowlark Elementary School in connection with a custody dispute.

As a precautionary measure, Kearney Public Schools responded by following Standard Response Protocol and placing Meadowlark Elementary and Sunrise Middle School on safe status while KPD continued to investigate the matter.

Secure status means the school will keep its students and staff in the building and will not allow visitors into the school.
