The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has equipped its delivery vehicles with geo-positioning systems to monitor the supply of Nandini ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) following allegations of substandard ghee being used in the famous Tirupati Laddus, an official said on Saturday (September 21).

KMF managing director MK Jagadish said ghee supplies to the TTD, which oversees the operations of the Tirupati temple, resumed last month after KMF won a fresh tender.

“We resumed the supply of ghee about a month ago. GPS and geolocation devices have been installed in our vehicles to track their movements and ensure that there is no adulteration during transportation,” Jagadish told AP.

The contract envisages KMF supplying the temple with 350 tonnes of ghee, with deliveries being made as per requirement, he added.

The move came after a laboratory report released by the TTD on Friday indicated the presence of lard and other contaminants in certain ghee samples. TTD Managing Director J. Shyamala Rao confirmed that laboratory tests had detected animal fats, including pork fat, in the adulterated ghee. The TTD is reportedly in the process of blacklisting the supplier responsible for supplying the contaminated product.
