Laura Lentz, the wife of disgraced ex-Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz, has returned to social media for the first time since her husband was dismissed from the mega-church due to “moral mistakes”.
On Wednesday, Laura posted on Instagram for the first time in six months to celebrate the 18th anniversary of her and her husband.
The ex-pastor’s wife shared a photo of palm trees against a blue sky and thought about what she had learned over the past few months.
While she did not directly acknowledge her husband’s infidelity or her discharge from the celebrity church, the mother of three spoke of forgiveness, strength, and the importance of friendships.
“I’ve been looking at these palm trees every day for the past few months and these amazing trees have many symbolic meanings,” wrote Laura, before sharing some who “resonated” with her during her social media break. “They are strong, can withstand the greatest storms, they always grow upwards. Freedom, Justice, Reward, Resurrection, to name a few. “
Laura then referred to her six month absence on social media, stating that she took the break “because it wasn’t good for my soul” and that she also “blocked and deleted more people and comments than I can count” .
In the long caption, Laura also exclaimed trolls who continued, “Trolls are cowards, SOME ‘Christians’ are anything but kind, gracious, or loving … but that doesn’t stop me from growing up and getting stronger.
“I’ve learned a lot about myself in the past few months. Now more than ever I know the goodness of God, His grace, forgiveness and strength. “
Laura admitted that she made “true friendships” during this time and said that she would not forget those who “left us”.
However, according to the former Hillsong member, she plans to focus instead on those who supported the couple, stating that she wants to keep her heart free from bitterness.
Laura concluded with the guidance of a friend who had told her, “I would rather be accused of being too gracious to someone because I am being accused of judging someone too harshly.”
The story goes on
“I want to be known as a woman who sees the good in people and really loves people unconditionally …” she added.
Carl was fired from the Celebrity Church in November, with the religious body citing the former pastor’s “moral faults”.
The day after his release, the father of three confirmed in an Instagram post in which he wrote, “I was unfaithful in my marriage, the most important relationship in my life, and was held accountable for that. This failure is mine and I alone and I take full responsibility for my actions. “
At the time, Carl said he would begin a journey to “rebuild trust with my wife, Laura, and children and to take time to work on and heal my own life and seek help, which I need”.
Prior to his release, Carl, who is said to have previously baptized Justin Bieber, was the senior pastor of the New York location of the mega-church.
Bieber, who has since been a member of the Churchome mega-church, recently spoke to GQ and criticized pastors who have themselves become idols of worship. The singer told the outlet, “I think so many pastors have placed themselves on this pedestal.
“Basically the church can be surrounded by the man, the pastor, the man, and it’s like this: ‘This man has this ultimate relationship with God that we all want, but we can’t get it because we are not this man are. ‘
“However, that is not the reality. The reality is that everyone has equal access to God. “
