Legal professionals meet in Greiten’s custody case | Mid Missouri Information

COLUMBIA — The attorneys for former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens and current GOP Senate nominee and his ex-wife Sheena Greitens met Tuesday at the Boone County Courthouse for a hearing in their custody case.

Eric Greitens and Sheena Greitens made virtual appearances. Both sides discussed a subpoena filed by Gary Stamper, Eric Greit’s attorney, for phone records of seven phone numbers over a period of nearly two months.

One of the phone numbers is Sheena Greitens. Some of the others include Sheena Greit’s sister, Catherine Linkul, and Austin Chambers, Eric Greit’s former campaign manager.

Eric Greitens attorney Gary Stamper and Sheena Greitens attorney Helen Wade sit before Boone Circuit Court Judge Leslie Schneider Tuesday morning.

Court documents filed by Stamper say Eric Greitens alleges that Linkul and Chambers worked closely with Sheena Greitens when they released the affidavit to the Associated Press and other media outlets.

The affidavit Sheena Greitens filed accuses Eric Greit of physically abusing her and her children. In the affidavit, she is asking the court to move her custody case to Austin, Texas, where she is currently employed and lives with her two sons.

Sheena Greitens issued a statement on Twitter saying she stands by her testimonies after she accused her ex-husband of abuse.

She said she “didn’t discuss the content [her] affidavit with someone other than [her] Attorney and, after the affidavit has been filed, [her] immediate family.”

Helen Wade, Sheena Greit’s attorney, is attempting to dismiss all subpoenas as being unreasonably inappropriate to lead to admissible evidence.

Court documents filed by Stamper say the affidavit is a “willful falsehood brought forward to gain advantage.” [Sheena’s] Efforts to remove the case from Missouri were deliberately leaked for political reasons and not done for the benefit of the children.”

Wade called Boone County Circuit Clerk Christy Blakemore to testify in court about the time frame between filing the affidavit and when AP reporter Eric Greitens called. She said once the court accepts a file and it is presented to the case, then it would be open to the public.

Stamper asked how it was possible for a non-party member to get a copy of something that the court had received but not yet accepted. She said they had to monitor CaseNet and retrieve the documents from a public-facing terminal in a courthouse.

Judge Leslie Schneider did not make a decision on the subpoenas Tuesday. She said she will consult lawyers’ arguments.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 27.
