N.Saturday, April 3rd, will mark the 300th anniversary of the Prime Minister’s office when George I asked Robert Walpole to become the first Lord of the Treasury.

The office has changed, but basically remains the same. Like Walpole, Boris Johnson is responsible for national finances, maintains a majority in parliament, appoints people to run government, protect the country and oversee foreign policy.

Britain has 55 prime ministers since 1721, including Johnson. But only nine have left permanent stamps in the country. These “trailblazing” Prime Ministers have changed the weather, changed the country for good, preserved the Union and raised Britain’s reputation in the world.
