LUBBOCK, Texas — A woman was sent to the Lubbock County Detention Center on Tuesday for posing as an officer, prison records said.
An arrest warrant accused 39-year-old Haley Barber of disguising herself as an employee of the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center to attempt to take custody of her child “through violence or other illegal activity.”

According to the warrant, child protection services previously removed the child from Barber’s care, which was placed in her mother’s care.
The warrant, which dates from August, says Barber was spotted on a doorbell camera at her mother’s home wearing a jacket with a juvenile justice center seal. When police were called, she told the officer she was there “to have a child.”

According to the warrant, Barber made “great efforts” to unlawfully gain custody of her child, including falsifying government records.
According to the warrant, Barber filed a document with Lubbock County to make it appear as if she owned a company called “Jordan Utley Law” in 2020. According to court documents, investigators called this an attempt to intimidate CPS into dropping investigations into them.

The warrant said Barber’s mother was afraid she would kidnap the child and “go into hiding.”
On Wednesday, Barber was being held at LCDC with bonds totaling $55,003.
