December could be the man reported missing by Kathleen Mangione. according to sources with knowledge of the investigation.
“That wasn't a name that was put in our mouths,” New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told NBC on Tuesday.
According to a source familiar with the investigation, San Francisco police contacted the FBI on Dec. 6 to tell them that the suspected killer looked like a man who had been reported missing in November. This FBI contact was first reported in the San Francisco Chronicle.
An SFPD spokesperson referred all inquiries about the case to the NYPD, which did not respond to a request for comment. The FBI also has not yet responded to a request for comment.
Mangione, 26, was charged with weapons possession in Pennsylvania on Monday. A few hours later, he was charged with murder in Manhattan, online court records show.
