UFC strawweight Mackenzie Dern was involved in a legal battle with her husband Wesley Santos before her fight against Angela Hill at UFC Vegas 73.
Santos and Dern have had a turbulent relationship for some time, and despite repeated attempts and persistence on both sides, they find it difficult to maintain their relationship.
The UFC strawweight traded allegations of physical abuse with Santos, uncovering an incident that went to court as there was video footage showing Santos ransacking his home before police intervened.
According to court documents obtained by MMA Fighting, the allegations relate to Santos Derns abusing two dogs and denying her access to funds in a Brazilian bank account, while also using her credit card and a lease extension for a previously shared apartment.
Santos also accused his wife of physically abusing their three-year-old daughter, Moa, a claim she denied.
Neither Mackenzie Dern nor Wesley Santos found support for their respective abuse allegations in court, but a decision was made regarding their custody battle. Joint custody of Moa was given to both parents, with Dern considered the main breadwinner of the two. As a result, she was ordered by the court to pay her estranged husband’s court costs of $10,000 and an additional monthly spousal and child allowance of $4,006.
Mackenzie Dern has to pay her ex-husband $4,000 a month. After she filed for divorce, the court recognized that Mackenzie was the main breadwinner of the home and ruled that she should pay Wesley Santos a $4,000 pension in addition to $10,000 for legal costs.

Mackenzie Dern opens up about her divorce.
“It’s crazy to me because I always want to represent someone who can stand up for themselves and defend themselves for all the women out there – so it was really hard for me to see myself in that situation.”

Wesley Santos released a written statement denying the allegations and expressing disappointment at his estranged wife’s decision to speak openly about their dysfunctional relationship. He wrote:
“I am disappointed that Mackenzie has chosen to make public statements regarding our divorce, particularly as it involves custody of our beautiful daughter Moa. As we are in the middle of a court proceeding, I cannot comment at this time other than to say that Mackenzie’s statements are false and defamatory.” [h/t MMA Fighting]
The couple continues their legal divorce battle and Santos has stated that he will not engage in the matter until the case is resolved.
