Man asks lady to swear earlier than Lord over ‘infidelity’ allegations, stabs her when she refuses

Tirupati: In a shocking incident reported from Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, a man stabbed his wife to death after suspecting her infidelity. The incident happened in Allamadugu SC colony in Vedurukuppam Mandal district.

The defendant was identified as Yella Sokaiah. Six years ago he married the victim, 24-year-old Yella Leela. The couple have two children.

Police said defendant Sokaiah had frequent arguments with Leela and has been harassing her constantly for the past few months because she suspected her “character,” according to a Times of India report.

Was asked to swear before the Lord

The accused on Wednesday called his wife to a temple lake in Kanipakam for a holy dip and asked her to prove her innocence by swearing before Lord Vinayaka Swamy.

However, when Leela refused to follow the dictation, her husband became angry and this led to an argument between the couple.

Enraged Sokaiah then attacked his wife and later stabbed her to death, the report said, citing sources.

Police were notified of the incident and Leela was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment, but succumbed to her injuries due to extensive blood loss. In the meantime, the police have initiated proceedings and launched a search for the victim’s husband.
