Woman and two children found locked up in Bellmead building

According to the city of Mexia, these investigations began on Wednesday evening – when a woman from Mexia told the police that her 15-year-old son had left her apartment the night before. The woman suspected that her son might have left with a relative.

A multi-agency investigation ensued, leading to the missing 15-year-old being found with his father – Joe Nathan Banks Jr. – who had helped his son leave his mother’s home in violation of a custody order. The missing child was placed in the care of his mother.

The city says Banks was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Limestone County Jail in Groesbeck. Banks has been jailed on multiple warrants from multiple agencies — including three counts of “abandon/child immediate danger body injury,” which are second-degree felonies; Assault leads to assault of a convicted family member, a third-degree felony; interference with child custody, a felony committed in state prison; Criminal Nonsupport, a crime committed in state prison; two counts of bodily harm to a family member, which are Class A misdemeanors; and criminal mischief >=$750<$2500, a Class A misdemeanor.

The Mexia Police Department would also like to thank Fairfield EMS and Teague EMS for their support.
