A LOWER Gweru man recently committed suicide after allegedly killing his wife in an argument over infidelity, despite reports that the couple were separated during the tragedy.
Police have since confirmed that they are investigating a case of alleged murder and suicide following the death of a couple in the village of 2 Bhudha, Lower Gweru last Sunday.
According to Midlands Police Spokesman Emmanuel Mahoko, the couple have been identified as Mkhokheli Sibanda, 31, and his wife Zanele Sibanda, 17.
“The couple’s two-year-old daughter was found sleeping next to the mother’s body and she was in good health,” Mahoko said.
“During the investigation, it was found that the two had split up after infidelity problems. Zanele passed Sibanda’s homestead on December 12, 2021 at around 5 p.m. when she was visiting her mother, who lives in the same area.
“The next day, on December 13, 2021 at around 5:00 a.m., a passer-by saw Sibanda’s body hanging from a tree in a nearby bush. The police visited the scene and discovered Zanele’s body about two kilometers away, which was tied around her neck with a shoelace and rope.
“The body also had some bruises. Both bodies have been taken to the morgue of Gweru Provincial Hospital for autopsy and the investigation is ongoing, ”added the police spokesman.
