LAGRANGE TOWNSHIP, Ohio – An Elyria man died in a shooting that happened after a child custody exchange Sunday in LaGrange Township, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher D. Sayers, 24, died in the shooting that happened about 8:35 pm in the 17000 block of Whitehead Road, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
A man called 911 to report that Sayers had been shot in the stomach. He also notified dispatch that he believed Sayers had died, the release says.
Paramedics, sheriff’s deputies and the Lagrange Township Fire Department arrived on the scene and administered aid to Sayers. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s deputies learned Sayers and his ex-girlfriend had a child custody exchange earlier Sunday. Sayers was later involved in an altercation with the woman’s current boyfriend, which ended in the deadly shooting, the release says.
The two men knew each other prior to the shooting, the release says.
No charges have been filed in the case, the release says. The shooting remains under investigation.
