Man faces 5 years in jail after biting sheriff’s deputy throughout custody battle | Messages

A St. James parish man who bit a sheriff’s deputy during a fight in 2020 faces up to five years in prison, prosecutors said Monday.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on May 18 for a disturbance during a custody swap and attempted to arrest Justin Stout, 40. But he defied them and bit one of the deputies; They eventually used a taser to subdue him, prosecutors said.

The bitten deputy had to see a doctor, prosecutors said.

On Wednesday, a jury at St James Parish found Stout of 3395 Tupelo Lane in Paulina guilty of assaulting a police officer, prosecutors said.

Judge Tess Stromberg of the 23rd Judicial District Court has scheduled Stout’s sentencing for February 24.
