Man kills wife over ‘infidelity’
A Bindura man has been jailed for 20 years after being convicted of killing his girlfriend.
The state claimed that on August 10, 2017, Brian Chikanya of Musana village accused his girlfriend Sarah Munhu of having an affair with another man. He then attacked her with a chisel and a wooden stool.
The court heard that Chikanya tried to cover up the murder by dragging Munhu’s body onto a nearby road to create the impression that the deceased was murdered on her way from a friend’s house.
During his trial, Chikanya claimed that Munhu had told him on the day of the incident that she was going to visit her friend Sarudzai Chisvo, but had received a shock to his life the next morning after she was found dead.
His version was rejected after the state proved that Chikanya fabricated the statements to exonerate himself.
In his ruling, Justice Foroma sent Chikanya to 20 years in prison, stressing that the verdict will send a correct message to potential offenders.
Meanwhile, Lupane Police are searching for Rodwell Sibanda, 42, in connection with a murder that took place in Mpondo, Lupane on Tuesday. The suspect is said to have hit Prince Dube (27) on the head with a rock after a misunderstanding about gambling.
In a related incident, Nhlakanipho Dube, 33, is wanted for fatally assaulting his wife Bridget Nyathi, 33, multiple times all over the body with a stick on 18/04/22 at Farubi Ncube Homestead, Chief Mabhikwa, Lupane, following allegations of infidelity.- Pindula News
