Marcus Chin has no problem showing his soul in front of the camera.

In addition to the ups and downs of his career, the 67-year-old presenter spoke unswervingly about his past scandal on the latest episode of Quan Yi Fong’s talk show “Hear U Out”.

How he met Cheah

The presenter justified the story with a rocky marriage between him and his estranged wife, former Taiwanese singer Murong Ying.

Cheah was a fan who showed up at all of his events and performances to support him, which resulted in the two swapping numbers and even meeting frequently.

Chin then hired her as his personal assistant.

“That’s how we started,” Chin said calmly.

But the host got “bolder” as the affair progressed, and he brought Cheah to public events (getai) where they were photographed by reporters.

At the height of the rumors, Chin and Cheah went overseas together as the former led tour trips.

“I was impulsive and decided to just do it and face the consequences as they came,” Chin said in a somber tone before smiling sheepishly.

Not long after that, Cheah became pregnant.

“I was shocked when it first appeared in the papers. Then it went on for 21 days,” he said with a laugh from Quan. “I felt like a sinner.”

In 2010, Cheah gave birth to their daughter Elise.

Monthly upkeep

Chin added that he was never happy after leaving his wife, regardless of other people’s opinions. The two had spent 23 years together.

After a month or two of no contact, Chin decided to return to her old home, where he secretly checked in with Ying.

When his wife asked for maintenance, Chin agreed and hired a lawyer to follow the procedures.

The court later ruled a monthly payment of S $ 4,000 that Chin has been making for more than a decade.

Living in Malaysia with girlfriend and child

At one point in his life, Chin was living in Malaysia with Cheah and their daughter – a time he described as “miserable”.

“I’m not talking about my life with Cheah and Elise,” he said quickly. Rather, Chin was referring to his schedule.

His day started at 4 a.m. when he woke up to travel to Singapore for work. When he returned to Malaysia at noon, Chin worked in the singing school he founded until 7:00 p.m.

After a day at work, he had dinner with Cheah and went to bed between 10pm and 11pm.

However, the two separated in 2011.

Chin attributed this to their 32-year age difference, which resulted in a different way of thinking.

He remembered the desolation he felt when he moved from their home in Malaysia and returned to Singapore.

With nothing in his name, Chin had to start from scratch, not for the first time in his life.

To this day, Chin and Ying are legally married, as he never dared to bring up the subject with her.

Chin also pays Cheah a monthly maintenance fee of S $ 1,000.

Due to his financial obligations, Chin has rented a room for his lodging instead of buying his own property.
