Mary J. Blige doesn’t approve of men receiving child support: ‘It’s crazy’

Although men in 40% of families get 83 cents for every dollar men earn, there is an increase in women paying spousal support to men. Mary J. Blige can attest to this and recently shared her passionate thoughts on the subject.

“It’s crazy,” the legendary singer, actress and entrepreneur said during a discussion at her Strength Of A Woman event in May.

Speaking to Earn Your Leisure’s Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings, she opened up about her financial woes resulting from her controversial divorce from ex-husband Kendu Isaacs.

The article continues after the video.

“I will never again allow anyone to have that much power over my life, my finances or my life,” she said to an applauding crowd.

In 2018, Blige was ordered to pay Isaac’s spousal support of $30,000 a month, despite allegations of infidelity during the marriage.

The large payments reportedly caused Blige financial difficulties.

“I owed so much money that I never thought I would ever get out of debt,” the icon said. “I’m out of debt now,” Blige added. “Now I have the wisdom, now I look at my payslip… that’s not my money. My taxes aren’t my money, so I say, “Pay my paycheck, pay my taxes, pay my tithing.” I don’t want to see all that money because it’s not mine.”

Blige also voiced her stance on women paying money to their ex-husbands.

“It’s so crazy that men can attack you and demand alimony. When I got divorced, I was like, “Are you telling me I have to pay him?!” And he cheated and lied.”

“Make a prenuptial agreement,” Blige said in a recent interview with Black Millionaires. “Because I didn’t have any, so in the end I just had to give everything away.”
