CAMBRIDGE, MD – On May 3, officers with the Cambridge Police Department responded to a reported physical disturbance in the 700 block of Douglas Street at approximately 12:05 p.m. The incident involved A'Mere Ayi'Janae Wheatley, 20, and Keyshon Marquise Melvins, 22, both residents of Cambridge.

Upon arrival, officers learned that Melvins had allegedly assaulted Wheatley as she attempted to pick up her child from his apartment.

Wheatley showed visible signs of injury. During the confrontation, Wheatley reportedly broke a window, re-entered the apartment and armed himself with a knife, leading to another altercation in which Melvins sustained a stab wound in the hand as he disarmed her.

Both people were arrested after the incident. Wheatley also faced additional charges after a warrant check revealed there was an active warrant for failure to appear in court on an unrelated charge.

After processing by the Cambridge Police Department, Melvins was released on his personal recognizance. The details of Wheatley's court appearance were not disclosed. Further investigations are ongoing.
