Merritt RCMP appeals for public help find lacking individuals

RCMP is appealing for public assistance in the search for a missing person last seen leaving a meditation retreat near Merritt.

Merritt RCMP said police received a missing persons report on Saturday, October 1, 2022, after Jacqueline McDermott was reported missing by family as she had not been seen or heard from since Thursday, September 29, 2022.

The RCMP media release said police learned that McDermott had planned to attend a yoga retreat near Merritt on September 30, 2022, but left after a short time.

McDermott’s vehicle, which appeared to have broken down, was on Highway 97 C between Merritt and Logan Lake, and members of the local community recall seeing McDermott near their vehicle.

Police said an extensive land and air search was conducted by RCMP Air Services, Police Dog Services and Search & Rescue and no sign of McDermott was found.

Jacqueline McDermott is described as:

  • Caucasian woman

  • 22 years old

  • 5′ 7 (170cm)

  • 50 kg (111 pounds)

  • Curly blond hair

  • Light skin

  • Medium stature

  • nose piercing
