Miranda Lambert reminds fans of her North Texas roots in her new single “Alimony”

Country star Miranda Lambert is not only the pride of the small town of Lindale in East Texas. She is also a native North Texan, as she reminds her fans with “Alimony,” the new single from her upcoming 10th studio album Postcards From Texas.

“Alimony,” a piano-driven honky-tonk tune about a rich, unfaithful husband, draws on Lambert’s early childhood in Van Alstyne, north of McKinney.

“My parents were private investigators in Dallas and worked on a lot of divorce cases in high-profile neighborhoods, so it wasn't hard to write this. I've heard about it my whole life,” she said in a statement.

On “Alimony” it says, “So I called the lawyer in Dallas / The one who lives in that palace / So I know he’s good at winning.” It’s followed by a witty ultimatum: “If you leave me in San Antone / Think of the Alamo-ny.”

In real life, Lambert has been married to former New York police officer Brendan McLoughlin since 2019. She divorced singer Blake Shelton in 2015.

“Postcards from Texas” is out Sept. 13, with a show scheduled for Dec. 28 at WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Lambert hasn't announced a date or venue for Dallas-Fort Worth yet, but we can safely say it will be bigger than Adair's Saloon in Deep Ellum, where she started as a teenager.

ZZ Top's just-released 5-LP vinyl box set From the Top: 1971-1976 (Rhino Hi-Fi) sheds new light on the creation of the most Dallas-esque of ZZ songs: “Tush.” The band's only hit sung entirely by Dallas-raised bassist Dusty Hill, “Tush” is two minutes of sultry metal boogie, accentuated by the seemingly random phrase “I've been bad, I've been good / Dallas Texas, Hollywood.”
