Missing Cobleskill student from Utica found safe

The family of John Koscinski of Utica confirmed to WIBX News that the 18-year-old student has been found and is safe. Koscinski was missing from SUNY Cobleskill after failing to check in with family and friends Wednesday afternoon.

“John has been found,” Kimberly Hodom-Koscinski said Saturday. “We are so relieved.”

According to the New York Division of Criminal Justice, Koscinski had been missing since Wednesday.

“John Koscinski is an 18-year-old missing student who is believed to be in danger. He is a student at SUNY Cobleskill and was last seen on the SUNY Cobleskill campus in the town of Cobleskill, Schoharie County, at 1:13 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11th. John drove a gray 2012 Subaru Legacy with New York license plate LBA-2792. He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie with the Metallica logo on it, a black coat and blue jeans.

Notifications throughout the NYS Missing Person Alert System were immediately posted on highways across the state and missing person posters were broadcast on social media and local radio and television.

Early Saturday afternoon, Facebook posts began circulating that he had been found and was safe. The family confirmed the good news shortly after 1 p.m.

No further details are currently available.
