A court in Kolkata on Monday ordered Indian pacemaker Mohammed Shami to pay alimony of 1.30 lakh rupees a month to his estranged wife Hasin Jahan.
Of the 1.30 lakh rupees, 50,000 rupees is for the personal maintenance of Hasin Jahan and the remaining 80,000 rupees is for the maintenance of her daughter who is staying with her.
In 2018, Hasin Jahan filed a lawsuit in the court, demanding a monthly maintenance fee of 10 lakh rupees from Hasan, of which 7,00,000 rupees is her personal maintenance and the remaining 3,00,000 rupees is for the upkeep of her daughter’s house.
Her lawyer Mriganka Mistry told the court that according to the Indian pacemaker’s income tax returns for the financial year 2020/2020 his annual income for that financial year was over 7 crore rupees and on that basis the claim for a monthly income of alimony of 10 lakh rupees were not unjustified.
However, Selim Rahman, Shami’s lawyer, claimed that the demand for this large amount of alimony was not justified as Hasin Jahan himself has a stable source of income from working as a professional model.
Finally, the lower court on Monday, after hearing both sides, set the monthly alimony at 1.30 lakh rupees. While expressing her appreciation for the court’s order, Hasin Jahan claimed that she would have been relieved if the monthly alimony had been higher. There was no reaction from the Indian pacemaker in this regard until the report was submitted.
In September last year, after the Indian team’s win over Pakistan at the Asian Cup, Hasin Jahan shared on social media a photo of Hardik Pandya leading India to victory with a six and there making a disguised attack on Shami, who was there did not make it in the Indian squad.
“Congratulations. A memorable victory. Thank you to our Tigers for helping the country win. This had to happen; the country’s reputation and honor are protected by honest patriots and not by criminals and womanizers,” her post said at the time. The post sparked widespread outrage from fans, with many criticizing Hasin Jahan for her veiled attack on Shami.
