Monetary infidelity: Secret banking, financial savings, and bank card accounts can create tax submitting issues for {couples}

CHICAGO (WLS) – Valentine’s Day is this month and here’s a quick tip for couples whose love of finance is waning.

According to creditcards.com, 44% of couples commit what is known as “financial infidelity,” which could include hiding a check, savings or credit card account.

Experts said this could become a problem if you file tax returns together.

Tips:

  • When filing together, make sure you read and sign the return.
  • Don’t ignore mail. The IRS sends each spouse a tax return to protect you – both to the same address. Open it, read it and understand it.
  • Don’t hide accounts
  • Experts said you should also have shared accounts for essentials and possibly private accounts for other expenses – but you shouldn’t hide those private accounts.
