Mountaineer lacking close to Wyoming’s tallest mountain

PINEDALE, Wyo (AP) – Seekers searched the area of ​​Wyoming’s tallest mountain for a climber.

Thor Hallingbye, 41, of Cheyenne, was reported missing Sunday morning after apparently being separated from his group near Gannett Peak on Saturday. Travis Bingham said on Monday.

A helicopter crew with Tip Top Search and Rescue was looking for Hallingbye. Rescuers also planned a soil search, Bingham said.

A missing person poster said Hallingbye was last seen wearing a red backpack. The poster described him as 1.7 meters tall and 57 kilograms, with blue eyes and brown hair.

Gannett Peak is a 4,210 meter high peak in the Wind River Range in western Wyoming. The ascent of the mountain, which is flanked by glaciers, requires a hike of several days and the crossing of the sometimes treacherous snow cover.

Hallingbye is an anesthetist and pain specialist at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
