NBC orders lacking individuals drama ‘discovered’ – The Hollywood Reporter

NBC expands its roster with a drama take-off entitled Found.

From All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll and executive producer Greg Berlanti, the series follows a public relations specialist (Shameless alum Shanola Hampton) as she sheds light on missing persons cases. Found wasn’t part of NBC’s 2022-23 series orders in May, but struggled for a pickup after the upfronts.

Berlanti Productions and Carroll’s Rock My Soul Productions, Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television are producing the series.

NBC also passed on two other drama pilots, Blank Slate and Unbroken, from last season’s development cycle.

“We are thrilled to be working with Greg Berlanti and Nkechi Carroll on this incredible project that is so close to their hearts,” said Lisa Katz, President of Entertainment Scripted Content at NBCUniversal. “Found is very compelling while also illuminating a highly relevant topic, and we know that with this group at the helm, these stories will be told authentically across all aspects of the production. Also, we were determined to find a vehicle for Shanola, and this project on NBC couldn’t be a better fit.”

Carroll said: “Bringing Found on the air and sharing it with everyone is an incredible dream come true. The missing person situation in this country is truly an epidemic in itself. I was inspired to create Found to not only entertain, but to be part of the solution. I am so grateful to my producing partner Lindsay Dunn and my partners at WBTV, NBC, Universal and Berlanti Productions for all their help and support. And I’m especially grateful to be reunited with Susan Rovner and Liza Katz, both of whom have been advocates of my stories since the beginning of my career.”

In addition to Hampton, who is also a producer, the cast includes Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh and Arlen escarpeta Karan Oberoi, with Kelli Williams and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

The show’s logline states: “Each year, more than 600,000 people in the United States are reported missing. More than half of that number are people of color, whom the country seems to be forgetting. A PR specialist – who was once among the forgotten herself – and her crisis team now ensure that someone always takes care of the forgotten missing. But no one knows that this everyday heroine hides a terrifying secret of her own.”

Carroll Executive Producers Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions and Rock My Soul’s Dunn. DeMane Davis (Queen Sugar) directed and executive produced the pilot. Hampton is a producer.

Found joins the reboot of Quantum Leap and the comedies Lopez vs. Lopez and Night Court in NBC’s roster of first-year shows. When Found will debut is not yet known.

NBC has decided not to pursue the spy drama Blank Slate and the Yellowstone-like Unbroken starring Scott Bakula. Two other dramas, The Irrational and an untitled romantic dramedy by Mike Daniels, and a comedy starring Emmy-winning Jon Cryer remain in contention.
