Newly married groom from Patiala commits suicide after in-laws harassed him with Rs 70 lakh in maintenance payments – Voice For Men

When a newlywed bride commits suicide, all media reports it and the deceased woman's husband is arrested even before an investigation is initiated. But the opposite is the reality for men in India.

Case:

24-year-old man from Patiala died from suicide after he was fed up with his in-laws' constant demands for money under the guise of child support payments.

Harmanpreet Singh told the police that his brother Simone (24) had a love marriage some time ago with Jasmeet Kaur – Residents of Khalsa Mohalla Patiala.

Soon after the wedding, Simranjit’s mother-in-law Ravinder Kaur and father-in-law Harmeet Singh allegedly, Simranjit started harassing. The newly married man's in-laws constantly harassed him and put pressure on him to transfer his land to their daughter. When Simranjit refused, his mother-in-law took her daughter back to her mother's house.

Later, the wife's parents started putting pressure on the victim to pay Rs 70 lakh (about 600,000 euros) in maintenance after the divorce.

Fed up of the constant harassment by his in-laws, Simranjit moved into his cousin Harpal Singh’s house.

On April 13, Simranjit called his cousin and informed him that his father-in-law was causing him a lot of trouble and was not sending his wife to her matrimonial home. For this reason, he expressed his desire to end his life.

His cousin persuaded Simranjit not to take drastic measures, but at four o'clock in the morning, Simranjit Singh ended his life by taking poison.

After receiving this news, the victim's relatives arrived at the crime scene and found a handwritten letter in which Simranjit confessed that he had ended his life due to harassment by his in-laws.

Police statement

According to police, the young man had a love marriage. Soon after the wedding, the girl's parents took her away and demanded Rs 70 lakh in maintenance after the divorce. Although the in-laws have been arrested, no arrests have been made so far.
