NOAA is delaying GPS monitoring rule for constitution boats pending lawsuit

The von Biden government agreed to postpone a rule mandating GPS tracking systems on charter boats, leading to a lawsuit from boat captains saying it creates constant, unconstitutional surveillance.

The National Marine Fisheries Service, also known as NOAA Fisheries, has postponed the rule to March 1, 2022. The agency said Tuesday the delay would give it more time to test another ship location tracking unit. The delay also gives more time to the process in Louisiana’s Eastern District, the agency said.
