Odisha man kills spouse on suspicion of infidelity | Goa Information

Ponda: Driven by suspicions of infidelity, Rajkumar Naik, a 30-year-old laborer from Odisha, allegedly strangled his wife Rita, 23, in their rented room at Bhatwadi-Shiroda in Ponda Taluka around 4.30pm on Sunday.
Ponda police caught the defendant at Ponda trying to escape.
South Goa SP Abhishek Dania said both the accused and the victim arrived in Goa around seven years ago. They stayed in Shiroda for the last three years.
“Despite being linked by love marriage, the accused Rajkumar murdered his wife because he doubted that she was in an extramarital relationship,” Dania said.
The police officer quoted his neighbors as saying they had frequently argued over the issue, but regular arguments between husband and wife escalated on Sunday afternoon, resulting in Rajkumar strangling his wife.
“The accused attempted to flee Goa to avoid arrest but our staff pursued him and caught him in Ponda. The accused has confessed to the crime,” South Goa SP said.
Ponda PI Vijaykumar Chodankar and other police officers were present at the crime scene to take statements and the forensic examination lasted until late in the evening.
