Shimla: The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is set for a large transformation with a number of technology -driven reforms, infrastructure upgrades and innovative income initiatives. The deputy Prime Minister Mukesh Agnihotri headed the HRTC and Bus Stand Management and Development Authority (BSMDA) meeting and announced important decisions to improve operational efficiency, convenience and financial sustainability.
In cooperation with the Department of Digital Technologies and Governance (DDTG), HRTC has launched four new IT-based systems. Under these, the online travel pass system is noticeable that students, government agents and dealers digitally apply for concession passes, pay online fees and receive RFID-based smart cards.
In order to strengthen internal surveillance, a digital bus inspection planning system was introduced. Inspection warnings and plans are now sent via SMS to improve employees' accountability and ensure prompt vehicle tests.
A GPS-based bus tracking system was launched for 82 buses in Shimla to expand to the entire HRTC fleet. This system enables real -time tracking of buses and improves the monitoring of the routes and the reliability of service.
The newly launched “HIM Access HRTC system” will benefit more than 9,000 employees by displaying their salary and personal details online and marking a step forward with regard to the well -being and transparency of employees.
With regard to the infrastructure, the Board of Directors approved 7 billion GBP for the repair and maintenance of draft stands in the whole state. In addition, CCTV cameras are installed at all important terminals to improve public security. In Mandi Bharari in Bilaspur, a new modern bus stand is also built to meet the increasing demand for commuters.
In order to support the increasing number of electrical buses, instructions were issued to accelerate the installation of e-charging stations at workshops and drizzle in Himachal.
An important commuter initiative, “Him Bus Plus”, was also released. This program integrates identity management with cashless fare payments and offers a discount of 5% on tariffs for all HRTC buses, including Volvos. A loyalty program as part of the program offers additional cashback services based on monthly trips. In another thrust for the passengers, the Super Luxus bus keeping tariffs are reduced by 15%, whereby the card holders for overall discounts of up to 20% including Loyalty Rewards are entitled.
In order to increase tourism and income, the circuits for the tourist day that connect religious and sightseeing destinations around Shimla are introduced. Other non-operational income figures include an advertising material guideline for HRTC tickets, website and app as well as a pilot that operates retail fuel supplies based on the fuel pumps from HRTC at 2 to 3 locations.
In order to improve the amenities on the side of the road, a Dhaba Directive for Empanel Hygienic Restaurant along the HRTC routes is implemented for the convenience of passengers.
In the welfare front of the staff, the board approved a change in the uniform color from gray according to Khaki in accordance with the requirements of the employees. Due to delays in the tender procedure, the employees receive a cash calculation instead of a uniform sentence, whereby the procurement is expected to be completed within one month.
In order to ensure strict vehicle fitness checks and opening new income options, automated test stations in PPP mode (public-private partnership) are set.
With these decisions, the HIMACHAL government directs the HRTC to a digitally strengthened, passenger-friendly and financially stronger future.
