Opelousas police: girl shot and injured whereas altering custody; Suspect arrested

OPELOUSAS, La, (KLFY) Opelousas police say a woman was shot and wounded in the Walmart parking lot on Thanksgiving Night during a custody transfer.

It happened just after 5 p.m.

Police Chief Martin McLendon said the female victim was the aunt of a child who was on the scene when the shots were fired.

She was shot in the upper body and taken to a local hospital where her condition is considered stable, McLendon said.

The suspect, Jordan Sereal, 22, fled the area with a woman in the car and was last seen on I-49 heading south towards Lafayette.

He was later arrested by Lafayette police and is currently awaiting rendition back to Opelousas to face charges, McLendon said.

The child is unharmed, said McLendon.
