A middle-aged housewife, identified as Ifeoluwa Bamidele, is on the run after allegedly setting fire to and killing her husband over allegations of an extramarital affair.

The victim, Bolu Bamidele, commonly known as Teebam, is said to have returned to Osogbo, the capital of Osun state, from Cairo, Egypt, to give his wife a nice treat on her birthday.

The wife discovered, according to the findings, that Bamidele had cheated on her and even had a child outside of their union.

Ifeoluwa is said to have searched her husband’s phone and discovered the messages the deceased had allegedly exchanged with another woman via WhatsApp. After confronting him with the information, an argument ensued.

The incident reportedly happened on Sunday, July 17, at her home in Koka-Ibokun Township in the state’s Obokun Local Council.

The Guardian noted that Ifeoluwa allegedly sprayed petrol in the bedroom while her husband slept soundly at night, locked the door and set the bedroom on fire. She reportedly fled the apartment immediately after the crime.

However, Bamidele’s agonized screams caught the attention of neighbors, who scrambled to save him.

He was taken to hospitals in Osogbo but turned back due to the extent of the burns he suffered. He reportedly passed out after hours of excruciating pain at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State, where he was eventually admitted.

According to a source: “Teebam came back from Cairo to surprise his wife on her birthday. She discovered that he had cheated on her and even had a child outside of their union. She confronted him with the information and an argument ensued.

“Ifeoluwa proceeded to burn Teebam’s phones before setting him on fire at her home. He was taken to hospital where he died later on Tuesday.”

The woman reportedly left a cryptic post on her WhatsApp status before the crime was committed.

It read: “I’ve always been a quiet girl and have never been in my life but Teebam pushed me to the sidelines. At this point you will all be crying over me and him before dawn. I promise you all that.”

Meanwhile, a neighbor in the Koka community said that he saw the woman the night the incident happened and that she was wearing only her underwear and no shoes.

He said: “After I walked over them (Ifeoluwa) at midnight on Sunday. I discovered that she looked so strange. She didn’t greet me and was only wearing a syringe and a brassiere. She wasn’t wearing a shoe. As I walked past her house, I saw plumes of smoke coming out of the house and heard the agonizing sound of someone.

“So I urgently invited other residents to help out. We found out that the man (Bamidele) was drunk before sleeping and therefore could not escape. We finally got him out of the bedroom through the window after discovering the door was locked.

“I got burns on my hands. When we took him to a private hospital in Osogbo, we were turned away. We later took him to the Osogbo Central Hospital in Oke-Baale, where they admitted us but referred us immediately to the UCH because of the severity of the wounds. At that point we were able to contact his family members and they took him to the hospital.”

Osun State Police Command spokesman Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident and said Bamidele died around 4:00 p.m. in the UCH. on Tuesday. She added that efforts to arrest the fleeing woman were in full swing.

“At around 11:30 p.m. on July 17, a certain Bolu Bamidele from Koka Ibokun was set on fire by his wife Ifeoluwa Bamidele of the same address. The victim was taken to Osogbo Central Hospital. He was later referred to UCH, Ibadan for better treatment. The victim eventually died at around 4:00 p.m. in the UCH. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.

“Efforts to arrest the fleeing woman are in full swing,” Opalola said.
