A 35-year-old Pickton man was located thanks to a GPS tracking device and arrested two days after his release from prison, according to arrest reports by sheriff officials.

Mauro Lopez-Perez first met Mauro Lopez-Perez Tuesday night, April 19, while Arturo Ugalde, a police officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety, and investigators with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office were conducting an investigation at a residence on County Road 4208 performed. A man pulled a Dodge pickup into the driveway, got out, and identified himself as Mauro Lopez. Ugalde was aware that the 35-year-old Pickton man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, which HCSO chief investigator Corley Weatherford reportedly had in his hands at the time, and Ugalde took the man at 7:30 p.m. on April 19, 2022 Clock in custody and transported him to prison without incident.
Lopez-Perez was booked into the Hopkins County Jail on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 8:09 p.m. for pending injury to a child, elderly or disabled person. He was released from the Hopkins County Jail on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Bail was set at $50,000, according to prison reports. He also apparently had to wear a GPS tracking device.
Meanwhile, an additional arrest warrant was issued for Lopez-Perez on an additional charge that allegedly took place on the first of the month. HCSO officers used the GPS surveillance system, which Lopez-Perez was exposed to due to the previous injury to a child, to track him to his place of work at 1080 County Road Northwest in Franklin County on Friday, just two days after his release from custody. HCSO Deputy Superintendents Elijah Fite and Zach Steward and Sgt. Richard Greer contacted him and took him into custody at 10:40 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022 on the charges on the warrant, Fite noted in the arrest reports.
Mauro Lopez-Perez was also mentioned in prison reports alongside Mauro Lopez as known by Mauro Lopez-Lopez and Mauro Perez and was committed to the Hopkins County Jail for indecency with a child at 1:21 p.m. The 35-year-old Pickton man remained in the Hopkins County Jail on April 23, 2022, in lieu of the $1 million bail set for the third-degree felony charge, according to Hopkins County Jail Reports.
