Pierce Brosnan has signed on to star in the upcoming gold heist thriller Misfits, directed by action veteran Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, Skip Trace). Filming on the project begins later this month in Abu Dhabi.
“We are thrilled to have him on board,” said Harlin. “Pierce and I have been friends for many years and have been looking for a project to work on together for some time. I couldn't have asked for a better actor to play our lead role.”
Set largely in the Middle East and based on a screenplay by Robert Henny, “Misfits” tells the story of famous criminal Richard Pace, who becomes involved in an elaborate gold robbery that promises to have far-reaching consequences.
Jamie Chung and British actress Hermione Corfield will also appear in the film.
The Misfits is produced by Kia Jam (Sin City 2: A Dame to Die For) and Dean Altit (Realms) and executive produced by Prince Rami Al Husseini. Jam's Los Angeles-based film company, K Jam Media, is the lead production company behind the project.
“After visiting and exploring Abu Dhabi, we were blown away,” said Jam. “We all agreed that to do the film justice, the production needed to be primarily on location in Abu Dhabi rather than LA, and we set up our base in the spectacular Jumeirah at Etihad Towers.”
Producers say filming on the project will begin on February 18. The announcement was made on Tuesday at the European Film Market.
Brosnan is repped by CAA and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush & Kaller. Harlin is repped by UTA and Paul Hastings.
