Police attach GPS tracking bracelet to terror accused released on bail in Budgam

Srinagar, June 29: In a bid to increase surveillance and maintain law and order, police in Budgam district have put a GPS-tracking ankle bracelet on a terror suspect who was released on bail.

Police said they had successfully fitted a GPS tracking bracelet to Mudasir Fayaz, accused of contributing to militant insurgency in Kashmir, on the court's instructions.

“This relates to case FIR No. 150 of 2022 under Sections 18, 23, 38 and 39 of UAPA read with Sections 7/25 of Arms Act of PS Chadoora,” police said.

GPS devices allow authorities to closely monitor the movements of high-risk offenders, significantly reducing the likelihood of further criminal activity.

“The fitting of GPS tracking ankle bracelets to the accused ensures that their movements can be tracked in real time and their entry into prohibited areas or leaving the geographical boundaries specified in the court order can be monitored,” police said.
