Pune: A woman was allegedly beaten to death by her 51-year-old husband in Thergoan, Maharashtras Pune. The crime occurred last month, but the defendant – who was in hiding – was arrested by police on Saturday.

The person arrested is Balasaheb Jadhav, 51, a construction worker. He doubted his wife’s loyalty and often argued with her. On September 23, he allegedly attacked her with a hammer, injured her and fled the spot. Thereafter, an attempted murder against him was registered under Section 307 of the Indian Criminal Code. The woman died of her injuries on September 29, after which the murder charge was increased to murder and an investigation opened.

According to a report in the Times of India, police received a tip that the defendant was hiding in Narhe. A trap was then set and the accused was caught by a police team led by Chief Police Inspector Vivek Mugalikar from Narhe.

In another incident, a 36-year-old man allegedly planned to shoot his wife after she refused to dissolve their marriage. After receiving credible information, the city police set a trap and arrested him.

According to the case details, the defendant Kamal Sehgal wanted to marry his girlfriend. However, his wife refused to divorce him and he decided to get rid of her. With the help of a contact, he got two pistols and some cartridges from the neighboring UP’s Aligarh. He had paid a sum of Rs 50,000 for the weapons.
