Pune district introduces geo-fencing and GPS tracking to monitor mineral transport

Pune, December 27, 2024: In Pune district, transportation of minor minerals is being monitored using geofencing and Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking. Mile markers are used to set routes and closely monitor whether the minerals are sold in certain locations. For this purpose, a control room has been set up at the Pune District Collector's Office.

In the rural areas of the district, the Pune district administration will monitor the excavation of sand from river banks, its transportation and subsequent sale. Talathis, department heads and revenue officers will conduct panchnamas online through a mobile app. If illegal transport occurs at excavation sites, photos can be taken and panchnamas can be held online, ensuring transparency in the processes.

Old excavation sites are scanned and digitized. The control room will check the fines from the entire Pune district, said Pune district additional collector Suhas Mapari. Temporary and permanent permits issued through the Mahakhanij website of the Government of Maharashtra at the district level will also be monitored. An Electronic Transit Pass (ETP) is issued for transport. The system checks whether vehicles are unloading sand in unauthorized locations or transporting quantities that exceed the permitted load. The control room will track such deviations.
