RED BLUFF, California — Red Bluff police helped locate a burglary suspect Tuesday by tracking the GPS of a stolen iPhone.
The Red Bluff Police Department (RBPD) said it was contacted shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday regarding a car break-in involving the theft of several items, including an iPhone 11 valued at approximately $1,100.
The owner of the iPhone tracked the thief using the iPhone's GPS system and reported his location to the RBPD. The RBPD said officers were called to the Dollar Tree in Red Bluff, where the owners pointed out the suspects. Although the suspects attempted to flee the scene, they were detained and questioned about the incident.
The RBPD said the iPhone was returned to the owner and a suspect connected to the break-in was arrested.
“We commend not only the officers' quick action in seizing the property, but also the vigilant citizens who are helping law enforcement curb such actions,” the RBPD said.
