RED BLUFF, Calif. – Red Bluff police helped locate a burglary suspect Tuesday by tracking the GPS of a stolen iPhone.
The Red Bluff Police Department (RBPD) said it was contacted just before 8 a.m. Tuesday about a vehicle break-in in which several items were stolen, including an iPhone 11 valued at approximately $1,100.
The owner of the iPhone tracked the thief using the iPhone's GPS system and provided the RBPD with his location. RBPD said officers responded to the Dollar Tree in Red Bluff, where property owners alerted them to the suspects. Although the suspects attempted to flee the scene, they were arrested and questioned about the incident.
RBPD said the iPhone was returned to the owner and that the sole suspect linked to the burglary was arrested.
“While we commend officers’ quick action in recovering property, we also commend the vigilant citizens who assist law enforcement in curbing these types of actions,” RBPD said.
