Rolla, Mo. Police arrest man for deadly taking pictures throughout youngster custody dispute

ROLLA, Missouri (KY3) – Police arrested a man who was involved in a fatal shootout during a battle over child custody in Rolla.

The officers reported Monday morning on the 1000 block of Morrell Avenue with a malfunction report.

Investigators say Devon M. Johnson, 27, of Rolla, arrived at the house to discuss a custody matter with Terry J. Brown, 27. Brown lived in the house. Investigators say that when Brown left the house, a verbal argument broke out on the street near Johnson’s vehicle. Investigators say Brown then went into the house and got a gun. Witnesses told police that he shot Johnson and hit his vehicle several times. Johnson then fired at Brown, seriously injuring him. He later died from his injuries.

According to police, Johnson surrendered to police without incident. He is being detained on a pending arrest warrant. Prosecutors have not brought any charges against Johnson in connection with the shooting.

Aid agencies for this incident include the Missouri S&T Police Department, the City of Rolla Fire Department, and the Phelps Health Ambulance.
