Kigezi Police Spokeswoman Elly Maate
An 18-year-old woman in Rukungiri District poisoned herself after learning that her 27-year-old husband was having an affair with other women.
Elly Maate, spokeswoman for Kigezi Regional Police, identified the deceased as Dorothy Natukunda, a resident of Runyinya / Kinombe Village in the Eastern Branch of Rukungiri Township.
On July 24, 2021 around 4 p.m., the deceased is said to have left her husband Amos Nyesiga with her child at home after an argument in which she accused him of infidelity.
According to locals, she had previously found him in a bar with another woman.
When she returned home, she had bean beetle pesticide in her bag.
The husband told police that she slept on the carpet that night and started vomiting that night. In the morning she was found motionless and Nyesiga called her neighbor Tusingwire Jane, who confirmed she was dead.
Maate says police were informed by local authorities in the area and the body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III for an autopsy.
