Scandal! Actress Gcina Nkosi, who plays the role of Zinzile Ngema, recently spoke about the financial troubles she faced during the first level 5 lockdown and her character’s current plot.
The actress told TshisaLIVE that she was not paid during these lockdown months because her contract says she will not be paid if she is not working.
We didn’t shoot, we didn’t work. We have signed contracts where there is no work = no wages.
We suffered a lot. We couldn’t do anything because we weren’t working, we couldn’t pay our rent, our lease, and all of those things.
The lockdown also affected her emotionally because she had not seen her family for several months due to travel restrictions.
I couldn’t go home. I had to be away from my family in Joburg for three months and I am there alone. It was too much. I was very upset.

She told the publication that she believes a lot of viewers are referring to her character now more than ever.
Her husband Mlungisi Ngema cheated on her with one of her closest friends Nonzi (Thandeka Nodada).
Nonzi even faked her pregnancy, cheated on the Ngemas from her house, and fed Mlungisi portions of love so he could divorce Zinzil.
Naturally! It happens. Even your best friend ever, even the people who grew up with you, can cheat with your husband.
It happens. I don’t think this is new in real life.
The actress also advised viewers having similar experiences not to relax in their relationships no matter what.
