Shakira and her estranged partner Gerard Piqué have formalized their custody agreement in court.

The former couple signed the deal in Barcelona after a 12-hour meeting with lawyers and entered and exited the court separately flanked by their legal teams on Thursday (12/01/22).

They also agreed to sell their £12million five-storey property in Barcelona after splitting in June after 11 years together.

Shakira, 45, and Gerard, 35, said in a joint statement after the agreement was formalized that their children Sasha, seven, and Milan, nine, are their top priority.

It said: “Our sole aim is to offer you the greatest possible security and protection and we trust that your privacy will be respected.

“We appreciate the interest shown and hope the children can continue their lives with the privacy they need in a safe and peaceful environment.”

The couple were in court to ratify the custody agreement they signed last month, under which Shakira will move to Miami with her children.

She and the ex-footballer arrived separately at Barcelona’s No 18 Family Court at around 9.30am without giving any statement to reporters outside the building.

It was reported that Shakira entered the building and signed first in front of her ex-boyfriend, and the next step is to repeat the procedure in America.

Gerard – who retired from football last week after being sent off as a substitute for Barcelona – lives in a penthouse flat with his new girlfriend, 23-year-old Clara Chia.

He and Shakira, née Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, announced in May that they had split after unconfirmed claims that Gerard cheated on her with a younger woman.

Meanwhile, Shakira said last month she felt “hurt” by Spanish tax authorities and accused them of £12million fraud.

The singer and her legal team are speaking out ahead of a trial that could see her sentenced to eight years in prison if found guilty.

She said: “It is unacceptable that the tax authorities, with their accusation, do not respect the legal certainty that every taxpayer must be guaranteed, not my fundamental rights.

“They’re also trying to tarnish a reputation they’ve earned through years of work… in my case, they violated my right to privacy and the presumption of innocence, fundamental rights of every citizen.”

Shakira is accused of living abroad and using an offshore corporate account structure to avoid tax obligations from 2012 to 2014 and faces six separate counts.
