CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – Sinclair Casper Refining Company has purchased and donated equipment to Natrona County Emergency Management in support of the Project Lifesaver program. Nationally, Project Lifesaver has rescued more than 3,800 individuals.
“Luckily our management was more than willing, and happy, to purchase this to give to the fire departments around us. We’re really proud that we can back you guys and help you first responders to this community that we all love,” said Sinclair Casper Refinery Representative Rob Ratliff.
Members of the program wear a transmitter in the form of a band on their wrist or ankle, and the program has no cost to the family. When caregivers notify 9-1-1 that their loved one is missing, personnel responds to the missing person’s last known location and begins searching with a locator.
“While it is an international program, we’ve witnessed first hand just how important this program is to our citizens of Natrona County,” said Natrona County Sheriff PIO Kiera Grogan.
Nearly 50 residents of Natrona County are currently enrolled in our local program. In 2021, Natrona County Emergency Management responded to 10 calls and successfully located every individual safely.
Three new locators have been donated to aid in searches. The new locators have been given to the Mills Fire Department, Evansville Fire Department, and Natrona County Fire Protection District.
These three new locators add to the locators already in use at the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office, Casper Police Department, and Casper Fire Department. Natrona County Emergency Management brought Project Lifesaver to Natrona County in 2006.
“The ultimate goal is to reduce the time it takes to locate the individuals and bring them home safely,” said Natrona County Sheriff John Harlin.
With the program and locators, search times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes.
