Despite the drama that has unfolded between Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas since the musician filed for divorce from the Game of Thrones alum, a new development in their split suggests they may be able to move forward in a civil manner after all .

According to People, the former couple’s lawyers attended a hearing on Tuesday where they announced that Turner and Jonas had agreed to four days of mediation to resolve the dissolution of their marriage. The mediation agenda, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, will include a custody agreement and a plan for co-parenting their children, daughters Willa (3) and Delphine (1).

The actress’ lawyer claimed the singer wanted to seek evenly split joint custody, saying: “The parties both see their children, and that’s what we all want.” Although Turner and Jonas appear to be on the same page after a contentious few weeks , their lawyers called for the trial and mediation to move forward in case the two cannot reach an agreement.

Since Jonas’s file appeared in the media, he and Turner’s divorce has been nothing but chaotic. His PR team immediately began claiming that she was more interested in partying than being a mother, which was largely seen as a tactic based on falsehoods to portray Jonas positively. After allegedly removing their daughters from Turner’s care without their knowledge or consent and flying them from the UK to the US, Turner sued Jonas, claiming he withheld both the girls and their passports. The actress also claimed that she found out about her divorce through the news, not from her estranged husband.

A judge ordered both Turner and Jonas to reside in New York until their divorce is resolved, and days later Turner submitted various documents to the court in support of her claims. Among them was a letter Jonas had written to a homeowner in the UK whose property he and Turner wanted to buy as a family home. The Jonas Brothers musician wrote the idyllic note in June, and when the homeowner agreed, he and Turner put a 10% down payment on the house in July — just months before Jonas did a 180 and suddenly filed for divorce .

We sincerely hope that the estranged couple can resolve their split amicably – as they are one of the last couples we ever expected to divorce, it was particularly heartbreaking to watch their relationship turn bitter came to an end.
