A South Tyneside father threatened to chop off his former partner's head in a dark location during a short-lived row over child access, a court has heard.
In a WhatsApp message, Aaron Bradley, 27, of Cobbett Crescent, Biddick Hall, also warned that he would put her “in a grave” if the opportunity arose.
His frustration also boiled over when he bombarded her with text messages and phone calls for days on and around February 14 last year – seven years after their relationship ended.
District judges were told the emotional trauma caused by the denial of contact with his daughter briefly involved him in drug and alcohol abuse.
The case was heard at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court.
Bradley, who has no criminal record, moved to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly to work as a chef and clear his head and had not caused any further problems since.
Prosecutor Olivia Randell said: “The victim was in a relationship with the defendant for seven years and they have a daughter together.”
“The relationship ended seven years ago, she would describe the relationship between them as toxic ever since because of the way he speaks to her.
“He often asked her to lend him money. On February 14th he contacted her and asked for £2. She said no and he started sending abusive messages.
“He said, 'I would literally throw you into the grave if I saw you in an alley with no cameras.' I'll cut off your head. I'll break your jaw. You think I'm joking, I'm serious.
“There were also 50 missed calls and text messages. She answered some calls and she recognized his voice.”
Bradley pleaded guilty to sending a message containing false information.
Paul Kennedy defended himself, saying Bradley would make arrangements to see his child, but this was changed on a whim by his ex-partner.
He added: “He became depressed and suicidal and managed to combat it with drink and drugs. In February 2023 he was feeling pretty bad.
“He accepts that he was in a dark place. He sent messages that were completely inappropriate. He sent them when he couldn't think clearly.
“He doesn’t take alcohol or drugs. This is a man of good character who has sent terrible messages on social media in a short space of time.”
Magistrates adjourned the case and Bradley will be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday, May 28.
