Sr. Collections Consultant – Alliant Credit score Union

What will your day be like

You are responsible for actively pursuing loss prevention and mitigation opportunities for member loans and custody products, including, but not limited to: credit cards, mortgages, auto, student and personal loans. The incumbent will arrange payments for members, conduct extensive traceability, investigate arrears, negotiate temporarily modified repayment terms for members who have run into financial difficulties, negotiate modified repayment terms for total loss or redemption deficiency balances, negotiate closed credit settlements, examine damage mitigation options for deceased members and conduct collection activities during the take-back process, including facilitating the return of returned vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Work with members to understand the reasons for the insolvency and determine repayment terms that will relieve the member while reducing the risk of loss for the credit union
  • Manage components of the take-back process, including working with members to facilitate the return of returned vehicles
  • Negotiate with members and non-member representatives to ensure changes to payment arrangements or bills for overdue or high risk accounts
  • Perform a comprehensive trace to identify both potential member contact information and potential assets that can be used in the legal pursuit of funds owed
  • Achieve operational service level agreements, including individual and departmental delinquency, loss and productivity goals
  • Serve as a de-escalation point for member problems

Qualifications

What makes you great

They’re a great pair if, in addition to completing a high school diploma, you would prefer a bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of experience in a collecting role and you have:

  • Basic knowledge in:
    • Collection lifecycle for all consumer credit and depository products including, but not limited to: credit cards, auto, student, and personal loans
    • Harm reduction technologies, products, strategies and tactics
    • Creditor obligations under, but not limited to: UDAAP, FDCPA, FCRA, CFPB, TCPA and UCC
  • Experienced negotiator who is familiar with debt settlement and skip tracing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Must demonstrate professional style over the phone and the ability to work independently
  • Comfortable work in a restrictive environment that requires a long period of time in a permanent workplace
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer
  • Secondary language skills desirable
  • Prior experience in a financial institution or insurance industry preferred
